This is the third Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Pakistan with this design. Two NPPs (K-2 & K-3) of the same design are already successfully operating in Karachi and adding electricity to the national grid. It is also pertinent to note that, C-5 will be the largest electricity-producing NPP in Pakistan with a capacity of 1,200 MWs.
The ‘Queen Never Cry’ meme has all the babes locked inThe inaugural session of the 10th Parliament marked a milestone in Sri Lanka’s history, deserving attention and reflection. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake delivered a precise and compelling speech that addressed a multitude of pressing issues facing our nation for decades, outlining his Government’s plan to restore sanity and order while fulfilling the mandate of the National People’s Power (NPP). He was firm when he said racism will not be tolerated at any cost and called for a strong multi-party system to foster national unity. Ironically he said in no uncertain terms the dignity of Parliament which had eroded must be restored. President Dissanayake did not mince his words when he said a satisfied public service and establishing a truly democratic state was paramount. The supremacy of law was an ‘A’ lister in his policy statement which included justice for victims and accountability for the perpetrators of the heinous crime. The economy was the draw out and he outlined a vision to stabilise the economy. Delving deep into the subject he said staying true to the International Monetary Fund Agreement was his objective. The President stressed the need for rapid advancement in tourism and information technology, a revolutionary overhaul of the agricultural sector and initiatives to maximise the value of mineral resources through private sector collaboration. The environment which has taken a beating where environmental sustainability is the key to overcome it or at least minimise its ill effects. In this respect, the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ project is a much-needed initiative aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability while also fostering ethical and responsible citizenship in both social and private actions. Tugging at many a heart string, President Dissanayake spoke of eradicating poverty with economic support programs ensuring that every citizen receives the care and attention they deserve. In the history of Sri Lanka, there has never been a more apt time than today, as everything seems to fall into place for the people of all nationalities. The two-thirds majority says it all. The political leadership has got a clear mandate and the Government is willing to implement essential reform across the board. The uniqueness of the 10th Parliament lies in the many new faces, many of whom are millennials who will work for the greater good of the public. This Government comes with a clear mandate focused on anti-corruption and good governance, setting an example from the highest levels of power from day one. Many were the thoughts experienced that these novice MPs of the 10th Parliament were ‘L” board MPs but will prove otherwise with the example led from the top. Rooted in Marxism, the 10th Parliament has a solid plan to mentor the young parliamentarians through training and induction programs which will get under way in the coming months. Speaking to the Sunday Observer at the traditional tea party held for the new House, Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, who is Cabinet spokesman in addition to his other portfolios, said, “The new faces in Parliament reflect the people’s requirements. They are politically adept and are sure to pick up the nuances of parliamentary tradition and governance in a jiffy. Every MP will be appointed to ministries and will be responsible for various tasks, providing valuable opportunities for them to learn about the governance and lawmaking process,” people’s requirements. While they may be new to this institution, they are not new to politics. We are committed to enhancing their knowledge and understanding of governance and parliamentary procedures in lawmaking, and we have taken the necessary measures to ensure that. Every MP will be appointed to ministries and will be responsible for various tasks, providing valuable opportunities for them to learn about governance and the lawmaking process. He said MPs are here to serve the people, not the media or not to entertain the public. He was adamant when he said that MPs should not enter the media fray unless they have something very clear to say about matters pertaining to the public. Being an MP is not being a media star to gain attention, a trend we have unfortunately witnessed in recent years, he said. However, what was laughable was Ramanathan Archchuna’s attention-seeking antic. On the first day itself he decides to sit on the in the Opposition Leader’s seat, he disregarded protocol and the private media went to town with the story. His actions did not contribute to any meaningful change within parliament or the broader political landscape, as the opposition leader’s seat will continue to be reserved according to protocol from next seating onwards. While such ambitious behaviour cannot be entirely eliminated in a democracy, the Media and the citizens must understand the role of parliamentarians. This kind of spectacle must not be entertained. It is up to the media to uphold responsible reporting for the betterment of society. As the President concluded quoting Martin Luther King Jr., “Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot eradicate hate. Only love can do that,” the new Sri Lanka is paving its way in the battle between darkness and light. It is our collective responsibility to steer the country towards the light, battle the challenges posed by darkness. The next parliamentary session is scheduled for December 3, 2024.WASHINGTON -- President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that he will nominate former White House aide Brooke Rollins to be his agriculture secretary, the last of his picks to lead executive agencies and another choice from within his established circle of advisers and allies. The nomination must be confirmed by the Senate, which will be controlled by Republicans when Trump takes office Jan. 20, 2025. Rollins would succeed Tom Vilsack , President Joe Biden’s agriculture secretary who oversees the sprawling agency that controls policies, regulations and aid programs related to farming, forestry, ranching, food quality and nutrition. Rollins, who graduated from Texas A & M University with a degree in agricultural development, is a longtime Trump associate who served as his former domestic policy chief. She is president and CEO of the America First Policy Institute, a group helping to lay the groundwork for a second Trump administration. Rollins, 52, previously served as an aide to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and ran a think tank, the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Rollins’ pick completes Trump’s selection of the heads of executive branch departments, just two and a half weeks after the former president won the White House once again. Several other picks that are traditionally Cabinet-level remain, including U.S. Trade Representative and head of the small business administration. Trump didn’t offer many specifics about his agriculture policies during the campaign, but farmers could be affected if he carries out his pledge to impose widespread tariffs. During the first Trump administration, countries like China responded to Trump’s tariffs by imposing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports like the corn and soybeans routinely sold overseas. Trump countered by offering massive multibillion-dollar aid to farmers to help them weather the trade war. President Abraham Lincoln founded the USDA in 1862, when about half of all Americans lived on farms. The USDA oversees multiple support programs for farmers; animal and plant health; and the safety of meat, poultry and eggs that anchor the nation’s food supply. Its federal nutrition programs provide food to low-income people, pregnant women and young children. And the agency sets standards for school meals. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, has vowed to strip ultraprocessed foods from school lunches and to stop allowing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program beneficiaries from using food stamps to buy soda, candy or other so-called junk foods. But it would be the USDA, not HHS, that would be responsible for enacting those changes. In addition, HHS and USDA will work together to finalize the 2025-2030 edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. They are due late next year, with guidance for healthy diets and standards for federal nutrition programs. ___ Gomez Licon reported from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has died. He was 100 years old and had spent more than a year in hospice care. The Georgia peanut farmer served one turbulent term in the White House before building a reputation as a global humanitarian and champion of democracy. He defeated President Gerald Ford in 1976 promising to restore trust in government but lost to Ronald Reagan four years later amid soaring inflation, gas station lines and the Iran hostage crisis. He and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, then formed The Carter Center, and he earned a Nobel Peace Prize while making himself the most active and internationally engaged of former presidents. The Carter Center said the former president died Sunday afternoon in Plains, Georgia. Contributing: Associated Press

Newsom says California could offer electric vehicle rebates if Trump eliminates federal tax creditJuventus and Fiorentina drew 2-2 on Sunday as the Serie A match was interrupted after seven minutes following racist insults from the stands aimed at home striker Dusan Vlahovic. Earlier, Napoli edged past struggling Venezia 1-0 to move level on points with leaders Atalanta. In Turin, a Khephren Thuram double was cancelled out first by Fiorentina's Moise Kean and then late on by Riccardo Sottil. "I don't believe in bad luck," Juventus coach Thiago Motta told Sky Sport Italia after his side's 11th draw in 18 league outings this term. "We should have killed off the game and don't leave a chance to the opponent. I don't believe in bad luck. I believe in merit." But the match was overshadowed inside the first 10 minutes when referee Maurizio Mariani called over the two captains to tell them he was stopping play while an appeal over the tannoy at the Allianz Stadium called on fans to cut out racist chants. The two teams then gathered in the centre circle, before the match resumed. Broadcaster DAZN reported that Fiorentina fans hurled insults in the direction of their former player Vlahovic, who is Serbian. Since leaving Fiorentina, his club from 2018 to 2022, Vlahovic, 24, has been targeted by fans of the Viola. In November 2023, Fiorentina were given a suspended one-match ban for chants directed at three Juventus players, including Vlahovic. Juventus midfielder Thuram opened the scoring after play restarted with a 20th-minute strike. It was the first goal scored by the son of former Juventus and France international Lilian Thuram since he joined the Old Lady in the close-season. Former Juventus forward Kean levelled on 38 minutes before Thuram doubled up three minutes after half-time. The hosts looked set to leapfrog their fifth-placed opponents but Sottil struck in the 87th minute to ensure both sides remain level on 32 points. - 'Definitely happy' - Advertisement (function(v,d,o,ai){ai=d.createElement('script');ai.defer=true;ai.async=true;ai.src=v.location.protocol+o;d.head.appendChild(ai);})(window, document, '//a.vdo.ai/core/v-ndtv-v1/vdo.ai.js'); Earlier, Romelu Lukaku wasted a chance to put Napoli ahead in the 37th minute from the penalty spot. His effort was saved by visiting goalkeeper Filip Stankovic. Giacomo Raspadori decided the match with his first goal of the season after 79 minutes, slotting home a loose ball after Venezia failed to clear. Napoli's third-straight victory brought them level with Atalanta, who drew with Lazio on Saturday, and have a superior goal difference. "Totalling 41 points after 18 matches, nobody, even the most optimistic, thought we could do it at the start of the season, but we still have to improve, we're a developing team," said Napoli coach Antonio Conte. "I am definitely happy, because this is a team that is growing," Conte said. "If we could score a few more goals, we would all be calmer, more peaceful and less likely to have heart attacks." Inter Milan, 3-0 winners at Cagliari on Saturday, are third, one point behind the leading duo but with a game in hand. Napoli can move into sole possession of the lead next weekend when they face Fiorentina, while Atalanta and Inter face each other in the Italian Supercup in Saudi Arabia. Paulo Dybala 's crisp right-footed volley earned Roma a 1-1 draw at AC Milan in Sunday's final match. The Argentinian's 23rd-minute strike came seven minutes after Tijjani Reijnders had opened the scoring for Milan following a flowing counter-attack. Claudio Ranieri's Roma are 10th on 20 points, seven behind eighth-placed Milan. (This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.)
