Electronic Arts Inc. stock rises Tuesday, still underperforms marketA New Year is right around the corner, and you know what that means: It’s a tradition in many parts of the world to make pledges and resolutions for the next year when the old one passes into the history books. Common resolutions include weight loss, smoking cessation, and cutting back on drinking. The above resolutions are good ones, but one shouldn’t overlook financial resolutions. Saving and investing are just as neglected as weight loss and sobriety, yet don’t make it into New Year’s resolutions anywhere near as frequently as those two. What kind of financial resolution should you set? That’s a personal matter, but a commitment to investing a set amount of money each month is a good one. Academic studies show that investing a little bit month in and month outperforms better than timing the market. With that in mind, here’s how investing $500 per month could lead to $335 in 2025. The investment strategy most experts recommend The investing strategy that most experts recommend to retail investors is what’s called It means taking a small chunk of your monthly earnings and investing it into the markets, rather than trying to time the market with lump sums. By dollar cost averaging, you gradually reduce the cost basis of your investments in bear markets. You also sometimes pay too much in bull markets, but the overall effect over a long period of time has been shown to be an immensely beneficial one. The above is why I decided to write this article about the passive income that can be earned with a $500 monthly investment, instead of a lump sum. Lump sum investing is usually not well recommended. With that out of the way, let’s see how you can make $335 in passive income by investing $500 per month. How you could get $335 per year in passive income by investing $500 per month You could get to $335 per year in passive income by investing $500 per month in a high yield stock like ( ). $500 per month works out to $6,000 per year. If you invest $6,000 at a 5.6% yield, you get about $335 per year. Here’s how the math on that works out. As you can see, it doesn’t take much money invested each and every month to get some passive income coming in. With high yield stocks like FN, it doesn’t take much at all! That’s not to say you should go out and invest all your money into First National stock of course. It’s subject to certain risks, such as interest rates, which are presently falling due to the Bank of Canada’s rate cuts. However, this example goes to show what could be achieved with a yielding the same as FN. And at any rate, some small exposure to FN a diversified portfolio wouldn’t hurt.qbet casino

NEW YORK, Nov. 30, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Leading securities law firm Bleichmar Fonti & Auld LLP announces that a lawsuit has been filed against Dentsply Sirona Inc. XRAY and certain of the company's senior executives for potential violations of the federal securities laws. If you invested in Dentsply, you are encouraged to obtain additional information by visiting https://www.bfalaw.com/cases-investigations/dentsply-sirona-inc . Investors have until January 27, 2025, to ask the Court to be appointed to lead the case. The complaint asserts claims under Sections 10(b) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 on behalf of investors in Dentsply stock. The case is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and is captioned North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District Firefighters' Retirement Plan v. Dentsply Sirona Inc., et al. , No. 24-cv-09083. What is the Lawsuit About? Dentsply manufactures professional dental products. On December 31, 2020, Dentsply paid $1.04 billion to acquire Byte, a manufacturer of affordable, "doctor-directed," clear dental aligners. The complaint alleges that, during the relevant period, Dentsply touted the growth in Byte's business as well as Dentsply's ability to profitably generate revenue by converting members of Byte's "target demographics" into new patients. In truth, the complaint alleges that Dentsply targeted low-income people with underlying dental issues that were ineligible for treatment and Dentsply sold Byte aligners to contraindicated patients. The complaint further alleges that Dentsply knew that its Byte aligners were causing severe patient injuries but did little to investigate and had no systems in place to notify the FDA, contrary to regulation. As a result, Dentsply materially overstated the goodwill value of Byte. On October 24, 2024, Dentsply announced the "voluntary suspension of sales and marketing of its Byte Aligners and Impression Kits while the company conducted a review of certain regulatory requirements related to these products." Dentsply also disclosed that it "expects to record non-cash charges for the impairment of goodwill within the range of $450-$550 million" for its Orthodontic and Implant Solutions segment, with the decline in fair value for the Orthodontic Aligner Solutions reporting unit "driven primarily by adverse impacts from recent state regulatory trends pertaining to the Company's direct-to-consumer aligner business." During a "Byte business update call" CEO Campion gave more context about the Byte suspension: "[I]n connection with our ongoing discussions with FDA, we have determined that our patient onboarding workflow may not provide adequate assurance that certain contraindicated patients do not enter treatment with Byte Aligners." As a result of this news, the price of Dentsply stock fell more than 4%, from a closing price of $24.41 per share on October 24, 2024 to a closing price of $23.31 per share on October 25, 2024. Then, on November 7, 2024, Dentsply reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2024 during which it disclosed it had "recorded a non-cash charge for the impairment of goodwill of ($495) million net of tax within the Orthodontic and Implant Solutions segment." Dentsply also revised its 2024 outlook, with expected organic sales of "(3.5%) to (2.5%) (previously (1%) to flat)" and adjusted EPS of "$1.82 to $1.86 (previously $1.96 to $2.02)." CEO Campion disclosed that although Dentsply was "not at a point in our analysis to make a definitive decision concerning Byte," the company was "thoroughly evaluating strategic options, which may include a discontinuation of some or all of this business." This news caused the price of Dentsply stock to fall $6.72 per share, or more than 28%, from a closing price of $23.98 per share on November 6, 2024, to a closing price of $17.26 per share on November 7, 2024. ( MENAFN - IANS) Belagavi, (Karnataka) Dec 27 (IANS) To mark the completion of 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi taking charge as the congress President in Karnataka's Belagavi, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday that the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' and 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' have significantly impacted the Political atmosphere in the country by thwarting the BJP-RSS's agenda of amending the Constitution. While addressing the Congress Working Committee at the Nav Satyagraha meeting, Kharge said: "When the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) first entered Parliament, he bowed at the steps of the old Parliament building. Now, with the construction of the new Parliament building, we fear their (BJP's) true project -- altering the Constitution -- is underway." "This (BJP-RSS) has been their old agenda. They have opposed the Constitution, the tricolour, Gandhi, Nehru, and Ambedkar. They have burned effigies of all these icons," the Congress President added. He also noted, "Time and again, ruling party members insult the Preamble of the Constitution. They disregard constitutional provisions and values. Institutions like the Election Commission of India are being controlled, showing no respect for their independence. This fight to protect our institutions must continue." Over its 140-year journey, the Congress has seen many ups and downs but remains steadfastly committed to Mahatma Gandhi's principles and ideals, Kharge said. "During the recent Parliamentary session, we witnessed the Home Minister's highly disrespectful remarks about B.R. Ambedkar. We protested, registered our objections, and staged demonstrations. These protests have now spread across the country," he underlined. "However, neither the Prime Minister nor the government is willing to admit their mistake. Far from seeking an apology or resignation from Amit Shah, they instead supported the offensive statement," Kharge noted. The Prime Minister issued a statement defending the Home Minister, and a false case was filed against Rahul Gandhi, he said. "This reflects the ruling government's attitude toward the Constitution and its makers. But we will neither fear nor bow before down. We will fight for the ideals of Nehru-Gandhi and the honour of Ambedkar until our last breath," Kharge added. "Another concerning issue is the diminishing trust in the electoral process due to doubts about the Election Commission's impartiality. Recently, they amended election rules to prevent the disclosure of information ordered by the courts. What is being hidden? Why are they reluctant to publish information that was never a problem when it was in the public domain?" he asked. Issues like voter deletions, obstruction of voting, sudden spike in voter lists, and unusual increases in voter turnout percentages remain unresolved, he said. "Meanwhile, farmers across the country are protesting for MSP guarantees and other demands due to the Central government's betrayal. Even hunger strikes are underway, yet this government shows no empathy for our annadatas (food providers)," he added, while criticising the BJP-led Central government. "What an irony it is that during late PM Rajiv Gandhi's tenure, farmers could come to Boat Club and voice their concerns freely. Today, they are barred from entering Delhi. During former PM Manmohan Singh's government, we waived Rs 72,000 crore in farm loans, provided maximum MSP, and enacted the Land Acquisition Act," he said. "During UPA's 10 years in power, we introduced rights-based legislation such as MGNREGA, RTI, the Right to Food, and the Right to Education. These were possible due to the leadership and synergy between Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh," Kharge claimed. "Today, no one listens to the public's concerns. We must step up to support them and fight for their issues with continuous effort and determination," he said. "I remind you of the November 29 Working Committee meeting, where we decided to confront the post-election defeat in Haryana and Maharashtra with determination and action. In the recent Parliamentary session, we successfully pressured the government and revitalised the Opposition. We also deliberated on organisational reforms and essential processes. I declare that 2025 will be the year of organisational empowerment. We will fill all vacant positions, implement the Udaipur Declaration fully, and equip our structure -- AICC to booth level -- with the necessary tools to win elections," Kharge added. "Karnataka is my native state and the starting point of my long political journey. Today, I am proud to participate in the memories of the great responsibility Mahatma Gandhi took 100 years ago, as Congress President," he said. "As we revive this historic moment, Karnataka today is governed by Mahatma Gandhi's values, upholding the Constitution and democratic ideals inspired by luminaries like Mahatma Basaveshwara, Mahatma Phule, and B. R. Ambedkar," he added. "BJP accuses us (Congress) of disrespecting Ambedkar. However, everyone knows that it was during Congress rule in 1967 that Ambedkar's statue was installed in Parliament. Following the demands of thousands of activists like me, during Indira Gandhi's tenure, Dr. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the first prominent statue of Ambedkar in a central position in Parliament. I say this to BJP and RSS: stop spreading lies," Kharge said. MENAFN26122024000231011071ID1109033628 Legal Disclaimer: MENAFN provides the information “as is” without warranty of any kind. Saquon Barkley has become the Shohei Ohtani of the NFL. There's no better home run hitter playing football right now. Barkley had touchdown runs of 72 and 70 yards for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 37-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. He now has five runs of 50-plus yards this season and is on pace to break Eric Dickerson's single-season record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. Barkley's historic performance against the Rams — his 255 yards set a team record — captivated a national audience and turned him into a fan favorite for the AP NFL MVP award. He's not the betting favorite, however. Josh Allen has the best odds at plus-150, according to Bet MGM Sportsbook. Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson is next at plus-250 followed by Barkley at plus-400. People are also reading... Running backs have won the award 18 times, including three-time winner Jim Brown, who was the AP's first NFL MVP in 1957. Quarterbacks have dominated the award, winning it 45 times. Only three players who weren't QBs or RBs have been MVP. It takes a special season for a non-QB to win it mainly because the offense goes through the signal caller. Quarterbacks handle the ball every offensive snap, run the show and get the credit when things go well and the blame when it doesn't. Adrian Peterson was the most recent non-QB to win it when he ran for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. Playing for a winning team matters, too. Nine of the past 11 winners played for a No. 1 seed with the other two winners on a No. 2 seed. The Vikings earned the sixth seed when Pederson was MVP. Barkley is a major reason why the Eagles (9-2) are leading the NFC East and only trail Detroit (10-1) by one game for the top spot in the conference. Does he have a realistic chance to win the MVP award? Kicker Mark Moseley was the MVP in the strike-shortened 1982 season when he made 20 of 21 field goals and 16 of 19 extra points in nine games for Washington. If voters once selected a kicker, everyone has a chance, especially a game-changer such as Barkley. Defensive tackle Alan Page was the MVP in 1971 and linebacker Lawrence Taylor won it in 1986. Running back Christian McCaffrey finished third in voting last year and wide receiver Justin Jefferson placed fifth in 2022. The Offensive Player of the Year award and Defensive Player of the Year award recognize the best all-around players on both sides of the ball, allowing voters to recognize non-QBs if they choose. Wide receivers and running backs have won the AP OPOY award seven times over the past 11 seasons. McCaffrey was the 2023 winner. The AP's new voting format introduced in 2022 also gives non-QBs a better opportunity to get MVP recognition. Voter submit their top five picks for each award, with a weighted point system. Previously, voters made one choice for each award. A nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league vote for MVP and seven other awards. The awards are based on regular-season performance. Clinching scenarios The Chiefs (10-1) and Bills (9-2) already are in position to lock up postseason berths right after Thanksgiving. Kansas City clinches a playoff berth with a win over Las Vegas on Black Friday and a loss by Miami on Thursday night, or a win plus a loss by Denver on Monday night. Buffalo can wrap up a fifth straight AFC East title with a victory over San Francisco on Sunday and a loss by the Dolphins. Status quo in Dallas? It's not a given that the Dallas Cowboys will be looking for a new head coach after this season. Owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on local radio that Mike McCarthy could end up getting a contract extension. "I don't think that's crazy at all. This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas. We got a lot of football left," Jones said. McCarthy led the Cowboys (4-7) to three straight 12-win seasons, but they went 1-3 in the playoffs and haven't reached the NFC championship game since winning the Super Bowl 29 years ago. Injuries have contributed to the team's struggles this season, but Dallas was just 3-5 before Dak Prescott was lost for the rest of the season. The Cowboys upset Washington last week and their next four games are against teams that currently have losing records. If they somehow end up 9-8 or even 8-9, Jones could make a case for keeping McCarthy. Be the first to know Get local news delivered to your inbox!
Sao Paulo, Nov 27 (AP) Brazil's former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro was fully aware of and actively participated in a coup plot to remain in office after his defeat in the 2022 election, according to a Federal Police report. Federal Police last Thursday formally accused Bolsonaro and 36 other people of attempting a coup. They sent their 884-page report to the Supreme Court, which lifted the seal on Tuesday. "The evidence collected throughout the investigation shows unequivocally that then-President Jair Messias Bolsonaro planned, acted and was directly and effectively aware of the actions of the criminal organization aiming to launch a coup d'etat and eliminate the democratic rule of law, which did not take place due to reasons unrelated to his desire," the document said. At another point, it says: "Bolsonaro had full awareness and active participation." Bolsonaro, who had repeatedly alleged without evidence that the country's electronic voting system was prone to fraud, called a meeting in December 2022, during which he presented a draft decree to the commanders of the three divisions of the armed forces, according to the police report, signed by four investigators. The decree would have launched an investigation into suspicions of fraud and crimes related to the October 2022 vote, and suspended the powers of the nation's electoral court. The navy's commander stood ready to comply, but those from the army and air force objected to any plan that prevented Lula's inauguration, the report said. Those refusals are why the plan did not go ahead, according to witnesses who spoke to investigators. Bolsonaro never signed the decree to set the final stage of the alleged plan into action. Bolsonaro has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or awareness of any plot to keep him in power or oust his leftist rival and successor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. "No one is going to do a coup with a reserve general and half a dozen other officers. What is being said is absurd. For my part, there has never been any discussion of a coup," Bolsonaro told journalists in Brazil's capital Brasilia on Monday. "If someone came to discuss a coup with me, I'd say, that's fine, but the day after, how does the world view us?" he added. "The word coup' has never been in my dictionary." The top court has passed the report on to Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet. He will decide whether to formally charge Bolsonaro and put him on trial, or toss the investigation. Ahead of the 2022 election, Bolsonaro repeatedly alleged that the election system, which does not use paper ballots, could be tampered with. The top electoral court later ruled that he had abused his power to cast unfounded doubt on the voting system, and ruled him ineligible for office until 2030. Still, he has maintained that he will stand as a candidate in the 2026 race. Since Bolsonaro left office, he has been targeted by several investigations, all of which he has chalked up to political persecution. Federal Police have accused him of smuggling diamond jewelry into Brazil without properly declaring them and directing a subordinate to falsify his and others' COVID-19 vaccination statuses. Authorities are also investigating whether he incited the January 8, 2022 riot in which his followers ransacked the Supreme Court and presidential palace in Brasilia, seeking to prompt intervention by the army that would oust Lula from power. Bolsonaro had left for the United States days before Lula's inauguration on January 1, 2023 and stayed there three months, keeping a low profile. The police report unsealed Tuesday alleges he was seeking to avoid possible imprisonment related to the coup plot, and also await the uprising that took place a week later. When A-list performers head out on the road for tour, custom-made stage looks—and lots of them!—are a necessary component for slipping into superstar mode. This year alone, headliners like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Kacey Musgraves , Taylor Swift, Doechii , and more have all brought epic statement looks to the stage. Think: Designs that are bejeweled, bedazzled, and created for to stand out in an arena. Ever wonder who is making all of these fabulous frocks behind the scenes? One rising designer who top celebrities have on speed dial: Lacey Dalimonte . Based in Los Angeles, Dalimonte is responsible for creating looks for Chappell Roan, Madonna, Conan Gray, Christina Aguilera, Billie Eilish, and countless others. Even more impressive than her stacked roster, is that she is a total one-woman show—often turning out a high volume of looks by herself in her studio. “I still work mostly alone, developing everything from concept, sketch, and patterning, to the final finished piece—sewing everything myself,” Dalimonte tells Vogue. Dalimonte’s aesthetic keeps celebrities coming back by bringing their wildest fashion fantasies to life—whether it is a western-inspired corset for Madonna , or a teardrop-adorned mesh top for Conan Gray. A prime example is the campy, furry robe she created for Chappell Roan back in May, adorned with hair rollers, lipsticks, and cigarettes. “As a Midwest princess myself, I was so excited to design for Chappell, and loved being able to push myself creatively for the drag of it all,” says Dalimonte. “Last month I designed a new leather outfit for her headlining show at ACL Festival, and it's so inspiring to see how much she's grown, with her record breaking crowds, in just a few months.” You could say Dalimonte’s own star is rising in the fashion world, too. As more performers tap her for one-of-a-kind looks, Vogue caught up with the designer to chat her inspirations, process, and what she wants to create next. Vogue : Can you tell us about when you first start designing? Lacey Dalimonte: My earliest designs were more conceptual with a "fashion for fashion's sake" approach. I have a deep love and appreciation for avant-garde pieces that are destined for the runway... But as recognition for my name and brand grew, I began to get approached by celebrity clientele who wanted something custom they could not only wear on stage, but sometimes even do the splits in... often to be delivered in a matter of days. These projects have helped me adapt and innovate my way through tough problems surrounding functionality, quick changes, and fabricating something beautiful that can also take a beating night after night. I've always aspired to be a multi-faceted designer, so over the years, I've also taken on roles to work as part of a team in positions that challenged me and my creative process in different ways. While some things have always been constant, each experience has taught me new things about myself and helped shape me into the designer I am today. When did you start posting your process on TikTok? You have quite a following there. January 2021 was my first TikTok. I honestly hesitated to even start one, but now it's my preferred platform. It allows me to let go a little; I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to sharing my work elsewhere. Not everything has to be so serious and I love the creativity TikTok brings. It has helped me reach an entirely new audience, while also supporting and connecting with other small, independent artists. Did you ever expect your fashions to resonate with people so much? I have a family VHS tape of myself at 4-years-old, nudging my little brother out of focus, saying “I'm the Star!”—if that tells you anything. I've always had big dreams from a very young age, and am working my ass off to achieve them. I never do things for other's approval, but feel lucky to have found my audience and love connecting with them. I take pride in my craftsmanship and love sharing my process to show the amount of detail and intention that goes into everything I do. To have my work be appreciated and reach the right people has truly meant so much to me. It has helped me keep going at times when I've felt burnout from sleepless nights, and the not-so-glamorous sides of fashion. It's surreal to go from working on something in my small home studio to seeing it be loved by thousands, sometimes millions, of people. What would you say generally inspires your work? Sometimes it's more of a feeling than something I can put into words. Other times, it's as simple as finding an oddity at the antique store that sparks an idea. A few things I draw inspiration from are fetish, period corsetry, innovative technology, couture craftsmanship, and historical garments. You have created looks for so many artists—Chappell, Conan Gray, Madonna... How did these artists find you? I'm still in disbelief that I've gotten to work with such iconic artists, and humbled to even be on their radar! All of my projects have come about as a result of a lot of moving parts. The effort that you put into taking chances and putting yourself out there can wind up creating the circumstances that lead to those kinds of opportunities. I've worked hard to build strong and meaningful relationships throughout my career, and spent endless hours strategizing ways to get my name out there; Never sacrificing the integrity of the work that defines my brand. Social media has played a huge part in all of it, and has allowed me to connect with people I aspire to work with and be discovered, too. Most often, I'm working with the stylists of these artists, who either contact me through Instagram or e-mail. Occasionally, I'm connected through peers I've worked with in the past. In truth, there's no one way of navigating the fashion industry—I'm still figuring it out. It's a chaotic, tightly interwoven web, and it's a lot smaller than some may think. Tell us about this fabulous robe coat you made for Chappell. What was the inspiration? I designed an opening look for the Boston Calling Music Festival, commissioned by her stylist Genesis Webb. She has very theatrical shows with designated "dress code themes" for her fans, which I love, and this one was 'My Kink is Karma'—her black and red sultry theme. We were inspired by vintage burlesque and showgirl references, and I immediately began sketching a dramatic camp boudoir robe. To elevate the look, I combined black ostrich feathers, faux fur, horsehair, and real hair extensions for the collar, cuffs, and hem to give it an exaggerated silhouette, even sculpting the hair with hairspray and gel to get the right look. Growing up as a professional dancer, I loved getting ready in front of my vanity, and had the idea that every showgirl needs her accessories on hand. I adorned the collar like an iSpy book, but with everything that could be found in her dressing room—crystallized matches, cigarettes, hair rollers, lipstick, a tiara, locks and keys, vintage brooches, pearls and chains, and heart lockets with a picture of herself—and Divine, of course. For the robe base, I was lucky to source a vintage deadstock metallic red and black brocade that was buried in the back of a shop in the fashion district. It's like a treasure hunt, trying to find something you've envisioned but don't know if it exists, all while on a deadline from sketch to reality in a little over a week. Have you had a favorite celebrity look you've done thus far? The first that comes to mind is working on Madonna's Celebration Tour last year, because it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Listening to her rehearse live while creating her western leather corset just a few feet away was surreal! I had the opportunity to develop and enjoy the design process in a deeper way than I had in a while. It's also so inspiring to be surrounded by such talented people who have been doing it forever, and share tips and tricks you'd only learn on the job; I was brought onto her team by my brilliant friend Sam Ososki as the leather specialist, but that quickly evolved into so much more. Witnessing Madonna's artistry and dedication impacted me forever, and to be a part of such an iconic team was a dream. Anything you want to create next? After years of custom-driven projects, I'm hoping to shift back to designing on my own time, establishing myself as a brand, and continuing to grow Lacey Dalimonte into the empire I envision it to be. I'm eager to fully immerse myself in the creative process, see where it takes me with developing new pieces, and push towards collections—while continuing to connect with people through my work and building a brand where all the freaks are welcome. I have tons of people I aspire to work with, but I would love to design looks for Lady Gaga's new album. Growing up in a small town in Michigan as a fashion outcast, she's always been an inspiration for me. Coincidentally, she was my first major commission in 2020 during the Chromatica era, but I would love the full circle moment to create for her now that I'm a more experienced designer. Also, Megan Thee Stallion, Law Roach, Rihanna, Dita Von Teese, and Britney Spears—feel free to call anytime, too!Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had another limited practice Thursday as the team readies for Saturday’s game against the Broncos. Burrow, though, does not have an injury designation. He is listed with injuries to his right wrist and a knee. Burrow has been on the injury report with the wrist injury all season after undergoing surgery on it last season. He said earlier this week that the wrist no longer bothers him. “I don’t think about it a ton right now,” Burrow said, via Jay Morrison of USA Today. “I think we’re pretty much past it. There are still arm care and things that I do to help with that, but we’re in a good spot.” Burrow is a leading candidate for comeback player of the year with his 4,229 passing yards leading the league as do his 39 touchdown passes.

The lopsided game was not particularly notable, but it was played on one of the nights the Mid-American Conference has made its own: A weeknight. “A lot of the general public thinks we play all of our games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, not just some of them in November,” MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said in a telephone interview this week. “What it has done is help take what was a pretty darned good regional conference and has given it a national brand and made it a national conference.” When the conference has played football games on ESPN or ESPN2 over the last two seasons, the linear television audience has been 10 times larger than when conference schools meet on Saturdays and get lost in the shuffle when viewers have many more choices. The most-watched MAC game over the last two years was earlier this month on a Wednesday night when Northern Illinois won at Western Michigan and there were 441,600 viewers, a total that doesn’t include streaming that isn’t captured by Nielsen company. During the same span, the linear TV audience has been no larger than 46,100 to watch two MAC teams play on Saturdays. “Having the whole nation watching on Tuesday and Wednesday night is a huge deal for the MAC,” Eastern Michigan tight end Jere Getzinger said. “Everybody wants to watch football so if you put it on TV on a Tuesday or Wednesday, people are going to watch.” ESPN has carried midweek MAC football games since the start of the century. ESPN and the conference signed a 13-year extension a decade ago that extends their relationship through at least the 2026-27 season. The conference has made the most of the opportunities, using MACtion as a tag on social media for more than a decade and it has become a catchy marketing term for the Group of Five football programs that usually operate under the radar in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and New York. Attendance does tend to go down with weeknight games, keeping some students out of stadiums because they have class or homework and leading to adults staying away home because they have to work the next morning. “The tradeoff is the national exposure,” Buffalo coach Pete Lembo said. “You know November nights midweek the average fan is going to park on the couch, have a bowl of chips and salsa out in front, and watch the game from there.” When the Bulls beat Ball State 51-48 in an overtime thriller on a Tuesday night earlier this month, the announced attendance was 12,708 and that appeared to be generous. There were many empty seats after halftime. “You watch the games on TV, the stadiums all look like this,” Buffalo fan Jeff Wojcicki said. “They are not packed, but it’s the only game on, and you know where to find it.” Sleep and practice schedules take a hit as well, creating another wave of challenges for students to attend class and coaches to prepare without the usual rhythm of preparing all week to play on Saturday. “Last week when we played at Ohio in Athens, we had a 4-four bus ride home and got home at about 3:30 a.m.,” Eastern Michigan center Broderick Roman said. “We still had to go to class and that was tough, but it’s part of what you commit to as an athlete.” That happens a lot in November when the MAC shifts its unique schedule. During the first two weeks of the month, the conference had 10 games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays exclusively. This week, there were five games on Tuesday and Wednesday while only one was left in the traditional Saturday slot with Ball State hosting Bowling Green. Next week, Toledo plays at Akron and Kent State visits Buffalo on Tuesday night before the MAC schedule wraps up with games next Friday and Saturday to determine which teams will meet in the conference title game on Dec. 7 in Detroit. In all, MAC teams will end up playing about 75% of their games on a Saturday and the rest on November weeknights. When the Eagles wrapped up practice earlier this week, two days before they played the Bulls, tight end Jere Getzinger provided some insight into the effects of the scheduling quirk. “It’s Monday, but for us it’s like a Thursday,” he said. Bowling Green coach Scot Loeffler said he frankly has a hard time remembering what day it is when the schedule shift hits in November. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. “The entire week gets turned upside down,” Loeffler said. “It’s wild, but it’s great for the league because there’s two days a week this time of year that people around the country will watch MAC games.” ___ AP freelance writer Jonah Bronstein contributed to this report. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. The Chiefs (10-1) and Bills (9-2) already are in position to lock up postseason berths right after Thanksgiving. Dozens of second-hand bags from brands such as Chanel and Hermes – some which sell for upwards of £10,000 – were taken in the raids. Dramatic CCTV footage shows masked thieves smashing their way into the stores before filling sacks with the high-end gear. Police are not treating the robberies as linked but word has spread across the industry, with shops now on guard in the run-up to Christmas as the black market is in full swing. On Tuesday, two crooks raided the appointment-only Eveyspreloved showroom in north London while an accomplice waited outside in a getaway car. They kicked down the door and took just five minutes to steal the one-of-a-kind goods before disappearing. In total around 70 per cent of the showroom’s stock was taken, with a total value in excess of £100,000. Distraught business owner Evey Amery, 57, said of the raid: ‘It was clearly targeted because you can see on the CCTV that the robbers knew where they were going and where the products were.’ Among the bags stolen were a blue-suede cowskin Chanel bag with champagne-coloured hardware, priced at around £2,250, and a vintage 1957 Hermes Kelly 28 Miel Crocodile bag, valued at over £11,000. Over £600,000 of second-hand bags were stolen in a raid of her two showrooms CCTV footage of Evey Amery Kurlander's handbags being stolen from the north London showroom This Louis Vuitton Monogram Aquagarden Mini soft trunk abyss limited edition blue bag worth £3,000 was among pieces stolen A Chanel Mini rectangular bag worth £4,650 that was stolen in the raid Also taken was a Chanel pink medium flap bag in tweed with a pearl handle and Champagne gold hardware worth over £5,600 Also taken was a black Chanel mock alligator-skin bag worth in excess of £4,000 and an olive green Hermes Kelly costing £8,000. Ms Amery added: ‘I’ve always been so worried about security and weirdly relocated the room where I store the bags just eight days before the burglary.’ It is feared the items will be sold for bargain prices on the black market by gangs determined to cash in on the festive season. On November 13, three masked men used an axe and scaffolding to shatter the windows of the Sellier showroom in Belgravia. They grabbed £500,000 worth of designer goods in a robbery that lasted just three minutes. Among the stolen items were a Hermes vintage Birkin bag with gold buckles worth almost £15,000 and a pink tweed Chanel flap bag with a pearl handle valued at nearly £6,000. Co-founder Ayaz Ibrahimov, 34, claims to have seen his bags for sale on social media app Snapchat. He says he handed the evidence over to police but nothing was done. ‘I put the identity of the person who robbed us under the police’s nose,’ Mr Ibrahimov said. ‘The forensics team have DNA evidence because the robbers injured themselves when they broke into the shop and left blood behind. But I haven’t heard a peep from the police in three weeks.’ In July, around half of luxury re-seller Luxe Collective’s stock – worth up to £500,000 – was stolen from the company’s warehouse in West Lancashire. One careful owner but still premium prices In an industry that deals in fads, seasonal trends and this year’s must-haves, the one item that never goes out of style is the designer bag. It’s true that the era of the It Bag – when the most important element of your outfit was your handbag, whether it was a Mulberry Bayswater or a Fendi Baguette – ended decades ago. But in its place a market has emerged for pre-loved (previously owned but in excellent condition) designer bags that have a history of their own. The idea now is not to carry the purse of the season but to own one of the classic bags with a name to prove how long they’ve been at the top. If yours has had one careful previous owner all the better; shaving a few thousand off the price makes them less eye-wateringly expensive (we’re talking about £8,850 for a new Chanel flap bag, but around £3,000 second hand). The most covetable among them are the Hermes Birkin (named after its inspiration Jane Birkin); the Hermes Kelly (after Grace Kelly) and the classic Chanel quilted flap bags: the 2.55 (named for the date of its creation, February 1955) and the 11.12. Then there are the relative newcomers to the pantheon of arm candy: Balenciaga’s Le City, Mulberry’s multi-pocketed Roxanne and The Row’s Margaux. Styles that are no longer in production are also in high demand. Dior’s Columbus, which dates back to John Galliano’s days as head designer in 2002 (£810 on eBay), has re-entered the hotlist since Rihanna was seen carrying one this summer. A Hermes gold vintage Birkin Retourne 30cm natural sable box calf leather handbag And the puffy cushioned and padlocked Chloe Paddington bag, a star of Phoebe Philo’s spring/summer 2005 collection, is another early 21st century bag enjoying a renaissance with younger customers (for a relatively reasonable £600 on eBay). For where once buying designer bags was a niche hobby of ladies who lunched, interest has exploded over the past couple of years. It’s now so mainstream that department stores Selfridges and John Lewis have their own vintage collections. Pre-loved bags are typically indistinguishable from brand new, but their cheaper price means you stand a chance of owning something you otherwise couldn’t. However, in some cases a second-hand piece can sell for more than its original price. To buy a new Birkin, Hermes requires the shopper to leap through hoops to prove their brand loyalty before they are permitted to part with their £9,000. This exclusivity means that pre-loved Birkins can sell for as much as £25,000. Such bags are status symbols, luxury fashion statements – and they’re collectable in the way that fine porcelain used to be. Whether you want them to show off or to sell on at auction, they’re hot property. Trump is tapping ‘unconventional’ leaders because that’s what Americans voted forFood bank network Trussell said the number of people still facing hunger and hardship across the UK remains "heartbreaking". The charity reported handing out 4,052 emergency food parcels from five food banks in St Helens between April and September. It was down from 5,241 parcels during the same period in 2023, but an increase from 3,940 five years ago. The charity reported its community of food banks gave out just over 1.4 million emergency food parcels across the UK between April and September this year. Although it was a 4% fall on the same period the year before, it was 69% higher than five years prior. Of the parcels, 508,000 were provided for children facing hunger across the UK. This included 1,375 in St Helens. Trussell said possible reasons for the slight dip in demand this year could include a "gradual slowdown" in rising food and energy costs, as well as the Local Housing Allowance being unfrozen in April. Despite the fall, chief executive of Trussell Emma Revie said the number of people still facing hunger and hardship across the UK is "heartbreaking". She added: "This cannot go on and we refuse to stand by while so many of us are pushed to the brink, left without enough money to live on. "Our food banks are a lifeline, offering a warm welcome and space to be heard. They need everyone to play their part to move us towards ending the need for emergency food in the UK." The charity said the majority of food parcels (63%) were distributed to families with children. It added more than 277,000 people visited a food bank in the Trussell community for the first time between April and September. Ms Revie said: "The UK Government was elected with a manifesto pledge to end the need for emergency food and the time to act is now. "There have been promising steps, but we need a clearer plan with more decisive action to invest in our social security system, if we are to end hunger once and for all." A government spokesperson said: "The mass dependence on food banks is unacceptable – that’s why we’ve extended the Household Support Fund again to help struggling families with the cost of essentials. "Alongside this, we are increasing the National Living Wage, uprating benefits and helping over 1 million households by introducing a fair repayment rate on Universal Credit deductions, while our Child Poverty Taskforce develops an ambitious strategy to give all children the best start in life."
